Child safety

These are Pilke’s published standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) on our service. Google Play’s child safety standards policy requires them of every social and dating app. The agreement between a user and Pilke is in the terms, and how we handle personal data is in the privacy statement.

1. Pilke is for adults only

Pilke is for people aged 18 and over. Age is an absolute condition of the terms: creating an account requires a date of birth, and the terms oblige you to give it truthfully. Nobody under 18 may use the service or hold an account on it.

If we have reason to believe an account belongs to a minor, we close it. We do not wait for another user to report it — we act as soon as we notice it ourselves or are told of it from any source.

2. What is absolutely prohibited

Pilke has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. Among other things, the following are prohibited:

• child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form;
• the sexualisation of a child, including in description, suggestion or drawing;
• grooming a child for sexual purposes, and any attempt at it;
• using the service to reach a child, or to prepare an offence against a child.

The prohibition does not depend on any material having been found unlawful by a court, and it applies equally to material a user claims is fictional or artificially generated.

3. What can be shared on the service at all

This is Pilke’s most important structural safeguard, and it is part of how the service was designed rather than a restriction added later:

• Users cannot send each other messages. There is no chat.
• Users cannot send each other images, files or links.
• The only content a user uploads is their own profile photograph, which under the terms must recognisably be them.
• The service’s only free-text field is the safety report, which is never shown to another user.

There is therefore no channel by which one user could send material to another. In practice the only route by which image material can enter the service is a profile photograph, and that is shown only to the adult users met through the service.

4. How to report

In the app. After a date you can file a safety report about the person you met. Only Pilke’s administrators see it, it is never shown to the other user, and you can write freely in it about what happened.

By email. Child safety concerns can always be sent to contact@pilke.app. This route is open to anyone — including someone who does not use Pilke and has never created an account. Tell us what the concern is and, if you can, who it is about.

We handle reports concerning a child as urgent, ahead of other reports.

5. What we do about a report

1. We remove the material from view immediately.
2. We close the account and bar its holder from the service.
3. We preserve the material and the data around it for the authorities rather than destroying it. We do not pass it on for any other purpose.
4. We report it to the police.
5. We handle the matter so that as few people as possible see the material.

We do not require a reporter to identify themselves, and we do not tell the subject of a report who reported them.

6. Law and authorities

We comply with Finnish and EU law on protecting children from sexual abuse, and with Google Play’s child safety standards policy. We cooperate with the police and answer requests from authorities as the law requires.

Child sexual abuse material can also be reported directly to the police, or to Save the Children Finland’s Nettivihje hotline, independently of anything we do.

7. Point of contact

The point of contact for child safety matters is reachable at contact@pilke.app. The contact is answerable for Pilke’s CSAE practices and compliance with them, and the address is monitored.

8. Updating this page

We review this page at least once a year, and whenever the service changes in a way that affects what it says. The date this version took effect is at the top of the page.
